Biometric Data Policy
Effective July 16, 2026
What we collect
When you verify your identity, FanCars collects a short video scan of your face (a "liveness check") and derives a mathematical representation of your facial geometry (a "face template"). We also process the portrait photo on the driver's license you upload.
Why we collect it
Solely to: (1) confirm you are a live person and not a photo or recording, (2) confirm you match the photo on your driver's license, and (3) prevent one person from operating multiple or banned accounts. We never use biometric data for advertising, and we never sell, lease, or trade it.
How it's processed and stored
Processing uses Amazon Web Services (Amazon Rekognition) inside FanCars-controlled AWS infrastructure. Face images and templates are encrypted at rest and in transit, access is restricted and logged, and AWS is contractually prohibited from using this content to improve its services.
Retention and deletion
We retain face scans and templates while your account remains active, because duplicate-account prevention requires comparing new verifications against existing ones. If you delete your account, your face template is deleted and stored face images are removed within 30 days, except where a legal obligation, an open claim, or a platform ban requires longer retention — and in every case no longer than three years after your last interaction with FanCars, after which the data is permanently destroyed.
Consent
We collect biometric data only after you have read this policy and given explicit written consent (the checkbox on the verification page). You may decline — but because identity verification is required to rent on FanCars, declining means verification can't be completed.
